Day 27 Navia to Figueras +-30km’s

There are days when mathematics does not work for me. Today was a result of one of those days miscalculating mileage from one town to another and booking an Albergue for the night. This caused a 30km day, hopefully not to be repeated too soon.

I started walking at 6:30am as soon as I could see in front of me. I never walk in the dark with headlamps etc. I must admit the very early morning is beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed the earlier start.

I decided to take the route through the farms instead of the coastal route as that would have added another 3km’s. I really did not mind as the route stayed off the main road except the last 5km’s. I walked some of the route with 4 Polish students, they started their Camino in Gijón. I stopped for a much needed breakfast in La Caridad and found Urina enjoying breakfast before she started. Her backpack was causing pain so it’s now using a taxi. She was heading to Ribadeo. After this I did not see another Pilgrim on the inland route. I had the countryside all to myself. I received a few Buen Camino’s from farmers and the elderly folk in the villages and that was it.

The route took me from Navia through Jarrio, Cartavio, Arboces, La Caridad, Veldepares, Porcía, Brul, Tol, Barres and finally Figueras for the night.

I’m staying at the Albergue Camino Del Norte the last hostel in Asturias before I move to into the Galician province tomorrow.

It’s a beautiful family run Albergue with home cooking. It costs €16 a night but you get a bed with sheets and blankets not to mention the bath towel.

That’s my story for the day.

The lovely Albergue San Roque.

Leaving Navia this morning.

A climb out of the city as usual.

Two Spanish cyclists at the bottom of the hill.
