Day 23 Avilés to Cudillero +-28km’s
I left Avilés at 6:30am. An early start was needed as I had a long day ahead. I booked at Cudillero Hostel 28km’s away. The cool mornings are always welcome and somehow I managed to arrive at 3:30pm. I’m a slow walker and I need a couple of breaks to get me through it all. There were also many uphills to conquer this time around. I really enjoyed the day walking in forests as opposed to the urban sprawl of yesterday.
I met up with Benjamin and Sonja on the route but we did not walk together today. They’re staying in the town before me tonight.
The route took me through the coastal town of Salinas. From there it was the small hamlets of San Martín de Laspra, Santiago del Monte, El Castillo, Soto del Barco, San Esteban de Pravia, Muras de Nalón and finally settling in El Pito for the night.
I met an Irish couple Tom and Rosean, we walked together for about 5km’s. I also met Cecelia from the US and we had a chat on the side road. She assisted me supporting the cause. Other than that all other Pilgrims spoke Spanish or Italian.
Early morning glow in Avilés.
Straight up and out of Avilés.
The Irish couple walking a lot faster than me. It was Day 1 for them.
Beautiful Iglesia in San Martín de Laspra.
