Day 20 Pernús to Niévares +-22km’s

I was up really early, long before the alarm. I call it the Camino alarm. Your brain starts walking long before you do.

I packed up and left around 7:15am. The usual early morning dark clouds were gathering. I was fortunate, it did not rain today.

The 1.7km walk from Pernús to La Llera was straight up. I prefer uphills early in the morning. That which goes up must come down and this time it was down slippery path ways. I don’t like them as it slows me down a lot.

The Del Norte is all about contrasts, a highway, asphalt farm roads, forests, mountains, parks and the beach. What more could you wish for. I think Del Norte could do with more Pilgrims. I did not see many today and I wonder how many took the turnoff to Oviedo to start Primitivo. I’ll have to see when I leave Gijón just how many Pilgrims I’ll find on the second half of the route.

Thanks to the owner of Hotel Rural La Cosona del Fraile I have the most awesome place in the mountains for slightly more than an Albergue. I’m staying at Angels of House Peña Crespa about 2.5km’s from Niévares just off the Camino. I was collected at the church and then I need to go over the mountain tomorrow. This is my happy place. I’m in nature before heading into a busy city.

The 10th century Iglesia de San Salvador in Priesca is one of the most significant examples of Pre-Romanesque architecture in Asturias.

Door of the day.

Back to paths again.

There’s always something special on the Camino. Just look around.

The first two Pilgrims I saw for the day 2hrs into my walk.

Mama cooked me the most amazing dinner. There was enough food for two people.
