Day 19 Ribadesella to Pernús. +-26km’s

I said farewell to the ladies as they headed off by bus to Oviedo to start Primitivo. The Camino del Norte has accommodation challenges.

I started out around 7:30am. I was not rushed as I had a booking reserved in Pernús. The day started in a strange way as I needed to digest walking alone after 18 days with a Pilgrim family. It felt like I started an entire new Camino. I really don’t mind walking alone, it’s not the first time. This Camino is extremely quiet at the moment. If I look back to the people I met in Güemes many of them have gone to Primitivo and others have stopped due to injuries or jumping ahead by bus due to time constraints.

Yet again I enjoyed ocean views throughout my day despite it being overcast for most of it. The highlight of my day was walking through the beautiful town of Vega de Ribadesella with all the street art. (See pics below)

Strangely enough there were many muddy paths today as opposed to roads.

I was fortunate to meet Darren from Holland coming into Colunga, he was interviewed on the Elders programme on KykNet for those that remember seeing it. He was walking with Lorraine from Ireland. It was really kind of them to support the #WalkingForLife cause by sharing it on social media. I’m hoping it goes viral now.

The route took me through San Pedro de Leces, San Esteban de Leces, Vega de Ribadesella, Berbes, La Espasa, Colunga and ending in Pernús at a lovely Rural Casa.

Amazing how this Tortilla gave me so much energy.
