Day 8 Bilbao to Pobeña +-23km’s
The walk out of Bilbao was awful through the industrial area. It was one of those one step in front of the other type of walking. The pavement had a slight camber to the left and that was hard on my feet.
The only highlight was crossing the Vizcaya Bridge to Portugalete. It straddles the mouth of the Ibaizabal estuary. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Then we pounded pavements all the way to Pobeña.
At least we had sea views at the end of the day. We’re staying in an Albergue donativo for the night. It’s somewhat cramped but we’ll survive.
Setting off from Bilbao.
I look for beauty around me despite the location.
Odd motorcycle
View of Portugalete.
The Vizcaya Bridge was designed by the Basque architect Alberto de Palacio and completed in 1893. More info: https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1217
The easy way up to the top of Portugalete.
Hard surfaces today.
Door of the day.
Finally sea air.
All lined up to register.
