Day 1 Irún to San Sebastián +-25km’s
It all started with a Tortilla in Bar Bidasoa with Jane before setting off on Camino Del Norte. The weather report was wrong as we had fog and some rain. Sadly did not get the views we were looking for.
The route took us up to Santuario de Guadalupe down to Pasajes de San Juan and over on the Ferry to Pasajes de San Pedro.
It’s not my favourite place as I slipped and injured myself.
Then a ton of steps up with more beautiful views and then a stunning trail to San Sebastián overlooking the ocean.
The Camino sign leaving Irún.
Fresh and ready to go.
The last sight of clean shoes.
The views leaving Irún.
Baby goat stuck on the wrong side of the fence.
Jane about to take on the first hill up to Santuario de Guadalupe. She is still smiling here.
The Camino signs in Basque Country are different.
Met two Spanish guys, brothers taking their dog on a 7 day Camino.
Jane looking down on Hendaya in France.
I had to at least get one Selfie.
Lots of mud and fog with soft rain today.
Coming down the mountain with beautiful views.
After I took the pic above I slipped and fell.
Luckily, no broken bones. Jane helped my up and did some repair work on my right elbow. The pain is minimal in comparison to what a child with Leukaemia goes through. So we saunter on.
Walking down Pasajes de San Juan.
The Ferry we used to cross to Pasajes de San Pedro.
Then a ton of steps up.
It’s well worth the climb with amazing views.
The Camino signs are somewhat different on the Del Norte.
I would have loved to see the views on a sunny day.
Jane on the trail with the backpack, raincoat in place.
An old Roman Bridge
We were tempted to stay here but fortunately we had a booking in San Sebastián. I love the city.
Walking down to San Sebastián on a cloudy wet afternoon.
San Sebastián.
Pintxas for dinner.
Beautiful San Sebastián
